Like drawing Disney characters or anime but worried that won't get you into college?
Look no further!
Hello! This Substack will also be for shameless self-promotion. I don’t have time right now to couch this in a thoughtful article, and I also respect your intelligence too much to mask this Facebook post as anything else.
In addition to college essay and writing clients, I am looking to take on more drawing students in the coming year! I've worked with students of all age levels on character design, painting technique, basic drawing, and more.
Have a student who you think could benefit from learning to draw or honing their existing skill? Know someone who does? Or maybe that person’s you? You’ve come to the right place!
Here are some examples of drawings I've completed with students: you can see my notes alongside each illustration. I work with students virtually by sharing my screen to procreate, and students either work on another digital art app they can share from or on paper. Both/all of the above work!
Zooming out—as a nationally award-winning political illustrator published in Politico, who earned a 5 on my AP 2-D portfolio as a sophomore (youngest at my high school to do so) and has illustrated four children’s books, I know how to help your child use their love of art to supplement their college applications.
Through the tutoring site WyzAnt, I have over 1,000 hours logged with a 5-star rating from over 180 reviews. I’ve tutored at least 1,000 off the site as well. I’ve also been tutoring students in art long before the last two years, while I’ve been running BowmanCreative LLC.
My approach starts with the student's specific reasons for loving art. I put that interest to work as a platform from which to practice and learn technique. Students enter loving Disney and anime and exit liking the Impressionists and Rembrandt too.
I've succeeded in numerous media, also working as an award-winning costume artist with numerous Judge's Choice Awards at costuming conventions across the DMV, as well as a trophy from BroadwayCon in New York City for two consecutive years (development as of this last weekend!), where my work was judged by working Broadway costume designers. I can adjust to whatever medium you or your student is interested in.
I've led drawing classes for Fantom Comics, the Georgetown Program Board for Georgetown University's Homecoming celebrations, and the Georgetown Institute of Politics and Public Service.
I have a flexible schedule. As a full-time educational consultant and freelancer in art and journalism, I can adjust to your time and meet at the same time weekly or at different times.
