Political Cartoon: Our Satirical Reality
With great exaggeration-for-effect comes great responsibility
Hello all! Here’s my latest cartoon for
.Rolling Stone recently reported that Trump has been ranting again about the need to punish late-night comedians for ‘illegal’ campaign contributions to the Democratic Party. But given that the art of satire is about exaggerating to make a point, Trump is already taking the comics’ jobs.
Among Trump’s recent wild exaggerations and lies are his encouragement of what is essentially the Purge, his now-classic debate lines about how Haitian migrants are ‘eating the dogs,’ some unhinged exaggerations about Biden and Harris’ polices about children, and his claim from December that he’ll only be a dictator on ‘day one.’
I’ve always wondered why SNL wouldn’t just reenact Trump’s actual speeches word for word — he’s already a grossly exaggerated caricature.
Oh and yeah, Jon Stewart really is just a little guy. I was a foot away from him while inside a press pen once and was the same height as him. Other than having to guess on Amber Ruffin’s height because I couldn’t find it listed online, the height lineup here is accurate.
I love how the fact I can draw anything I want for Counterpoint means I get to draw some of my favorite folks in a professional context. I plan to fully capitalize on this.
Until next time!
