Political Cartoon: The New Kennedy Center Chairman's Artistic Inclinations
He and I inexplicably have the same favorite show but for very different reasons
Hello all! Here’s my latest cartoon for
, which I’ve been frothing at the mouth to have published since the New York Times story dropped last week:The new Chairman of the Kennedy Center appears to judge art’s worthiness to appear in the king’s court based on whether it’s free of ideas he might dislike, and whether the performance features women he finds attractive.
(This, and Trump’s affinity for Cats, of all shows, were confirmed in a recent New York Times report in highly specific detail.)
Per those two criteria, Cats’ narrative about tolerance for the outcast didn’t seem to get through to him when he apparently attended the Broadway premiere in 1982, and it’s a dance musical with athletic women in it. Thus, Cats has unfortunately risen to the top of Trump’s theatrical favor.
One has to wonder what world-class musical theater performers—I repeat, musical theater performers—will agree to dance for, and be ogled by, the monarch.
It’s very possible that I continue doing cartoons about this. I’ve already pitched some to several other publications. And the great thing about the system over at Cagle is that I don’t have to pitch squat and can post however much I want for editors to snatch up. The sky (my schedule) is the limit.
Speaking of Cagle, I’m late on posting a cartoon and a Cagle news item.
More to come.
