Political Cartoon: Steve Bannon's "America First" vs. Christianity's "God First"
This probably won't be the thing that wakes up Christian MAGA but we can still hope.
Hello all!
Here’s my latest for Cagle Cartoons:
Politico reported Thursday on right-wing leader Steve Bannon’s commentary about the new Pope.
“This is an anti-Trump vote by the globalists that run the Curia — this is the pope Bergoglio and his clique wanted,” Bannon has said.
Bannon also commented to the BBC Friday: "I mean, it's kind of jaw-dropping… it is shocking to me that a guy could be selected to be the Pope that had had the Twitter feed and the statements he's had against American senior politicians.”
Likewise, Laura Loomer called Pope Leo XIV "anti-Trump, anti-MAGA, pro-open Borders, and a total Marxist like Pope Francis.”
Regardless of your religious background, you should care about how MAGA connects Christianity with Trumpism, and uses it to fuel and perpetuate their priorities and message.
Bannon’s wording reveals so much about the twistedness of Christian MAGA’s priorities.
The advent of these comments about the new Pope from right-wing leadership really has all the makings of another one of those things that shows Trumpism for what it really is. History shows that no such thing exists. But we can still hope.
Until next time.
Way too often (like once a day), I hear a noise in my head from cognitive dissonance. You know that rattle-can, cowbell sound when the cartoon character gets conked on the head and sees stars? My Vacation Bible School, Christian summer camp, Presbyterian church roots are showing. I shake my Tinkerbell fists at the sky and scream, “Christians -- I trusted you to live by the teachings of Jesus!!!” I’m very naive. I may be an idiot. I don’t call myself a Christian, but Jesus is a friend of mine and I never left him. The moneylenders took over the temples and they’re selling Trump bibles. [The pixie stomps away angrily and pours a tiny shot of tequila into a thimble.] ✨🥃🧚💫
